Sony exec says Lollipop update for XPERIA Z3 rolling out in February

At CES 2015, Sony lifted the lid on the stainless steel version of the Sony SmartWatch 3. Sadly, it didn’t unveil any new smartphone. We were actually waiting for the Japanese phone maker to unveil the XPERIA Z4. You may be disappointed the Z4 didn’t make its debut at the trade show, but at least we now know when Sony will be rolling out the latest version of Android to the XPERIA Z3. According to a Sony exec, the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update for the Z3 will be rolling out in February.

The Sony exec in question is Michael Fasulo, Sony Electronics COO. AndroidCentral reports the exec saying at CES 2015 that the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update for the XPERIA Z3 will be rolling out next month. However, when in February is anyone’s guess.

Back in October, Sony revealed that its entire XPERIA Z lineup would be updated to Lollipop. This includes Sony’s flagship from two years back the XPERIA Z.

Going back to the XPERIA Z4, Sony may not have lifted the lid on its new flagship at CES 2015, but we’re likely to see the smartphone make its debut at MWC 2015, which kicks off in Barcelona, Spain in March. It is expected to run Android 5.0 (Lollipop) out of the box.
