We know, thanks to Sony’s teaser posted last week, that the Japanese device maker is planning to lift the lid on “a smartphone with greater focus” on the 2nd of September at the IFA 2015 trade show, which kicks off in Berlin, Germany. Word on the street is, these smartphones will be the Sony XPERIA Z5 and the Sony XPERIA Z5 Compact. Although we’re can’t say for sure if Sony will lift the lid on its new XPERIA Z5 series at the upcoming trade show, we’re guessing it will as press renders of the Z5 have surfaced online.
Alleged press renders
The alleged press renders seen above were leaked by XperiaBlog, a site known for leaking information on yet to be announced Sony XPERIA devices. If genuine, the renders show us what the XPERIA Z5 will look like, before Sony lifts the lid on the device on the 2nd of September. XperiaBlog spotted the renders on a Sony Mobile social media channel, before the person behind the post quickly deleted the images.
One of the press renders shows the device covered in droplets of water. This isn’t surprising, since the upcoming Sony XPERIA Z5 is expected to be water proof.
The most interesting render among the bunch is the one that shows off the Sony XPERIA Z5’s camera. From what we can see, the smartphone comes with a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera, which is likely to offer the same fast hybrid auto focus system that first made its debut on board the relatively new XPERIA M5.
As far as design goes, the renders only show the back and sides of the device, but, from what we can see, we don’t think the XPERIA Z5 will look that much different compared to its predecessors – the internationally available XPERIA Z3 Plus and the Japanese-exclusive XPERIA Z4.
As far as specs are concerned, we’ve learned from previous reports that the Sony XPERIA Z5 will sport a 5.2-inch screen (some say it will offer the same resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (FHD) just like the XPERIA Z3 Plus / Z4; some say that it will come with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (QHD) just like rival flagships). Other rumoured specs include a a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 2 GHz, four cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, and an Adreno 430 GPU coupled with 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM. The renders also reveal at least three colour options, including gold, white, and green.
