At CES 2016, Sony didn’t introduce a new smartphone. This, however, doesn’t mean that the Japanese phone maker isn’t planning on releasing a new smartphone soon, if a new leak is to be believed.
Bezel-less Sony XPERIA C6
The photos above were leaked by Chinese-speaking IT168. The photos are claiming to show a prototype of an unannounced Sony XPERIA device clad in metal. The device features the usual XPERIA omnibalance design. However, the device in the photos doesn’t seem to feature bezels. The leak claims that we are looking at the unannounced Sony XPERIA C6.
Specs-wise, the Sony XPERIA C6 is expected to feature a 5.5-inch screen, which is smaller than the Sony XPERIA C5 Ultra’s massive 6-inch screen. According to sources, the C6’s 5.5-inch screen will have a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). This works out to a pixel density of 424 ppi. So why is Sony planning to downsize the C6’s screen? According to sources, Sony is planning to cut down on the amount of Ultra versions of its XPERIA devices this 2016. Under the hood is expected to be a MediaTek Helio P10 (MT 6755) SoC, which is a 64-bit octa-core processor. The device’s RAM is yet to be determined, but we’re guessing it will have 3 GB of RAM on board, as most mid-range devices feature 3 GB of RAM.
Unfortunately, that’s all she wrote at the moment, but we’ll be sure to have more information on the unannounced Sony XPERIA C6 once we come across more rumours about the device.
So when do we get to see the Sony XPERIA C6 make its official debut? Sony lifted the lid on the XPERIA C5 Ultra last year in August. This said, we’re expecting the C6 to be officially unveiled in August of this year, which is six months from now. On the flip side, Sony is known to switch up its release cycles, so we could see the C6 make its official debut at Mobile World Congress 2016, which kicks off in Barcelona, Spain towards the end of February.
