In most markets such as the US, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will not be available until the 21st of August. However, there is one country that will offer the hotly-anticipated phablet as we speak. No, it’s not South Korea, where Samsung-made devices are offered first. That country is Taiwan.
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 up for grabs in Taiwan
Note fans in Taiwan can get their hands on the 32 GB version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for the equivalent of £472, while the version with 64 GB of storage space will set them back £523.
So why did Samsung launch the Galaxy Note 5 in Taiwan first? According to ePrice, the Note series phablets have been highly popular in the country, with almost 2 million units sold since the original Note was launched in 2011. 2 million units is not an impressive number compared to the amount of units sold on a global scale, but, in Taiwan, it is a big deal, since the small country only has a population of around 23 million.
Not only did the South Korean tech giant release the Galaxy Note 5 in Taiwan early, it also released accessories for the device. These include cases studded with Swarovski crystals (seen in the photo above).
Not available in the UK
If you are unfamiliar with the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, it is one of the most powerful devices available in the market. It sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED QHD screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, which works out to a pixel density of 518 ppi. In the camera department, it comes with a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS (optical image stabilisation) and F1.9 aperture, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with F1.9 aperture. It comes with a fingerprint reader integrated into the home button, which allows users to make use of Samsung Pay. Under the hood is Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor (four cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and four cores clocked at 1.5 GHz) built using Samsung’s 14 nm process, coupled with 4 GB of RAM (one of the first devices made by Samsung to come with 4 GB of RAM). Keeping the lights on is a non-removable fast-charging 3,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.1 (Lollipop) out of the box with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI slapped on top.
Unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will not be available in Europe, including the UK. In the UK, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (phablet version of the S6 Edge) is up for pre-order.
