Recently, the Samsung Galaxy A9 was approved by Chinese authority TENAA, which was indication that the device would be officially unveiled soon. Soon after the device’s certification, Samsung’s Chinese arm lifted the lid on the largest smartphone to join its roster.
Say hello to the Samsung Galaxy A9
Now that the Samsung Galaxy A9 is official, let’s talk about the device’s specs. The Galaxy A9 is the biggest smartphone ever made by Samsung. This upper mid-range device features a massive 6-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC (formerly known as the Snapdragon 620), which is an octa-core processor with an Adreno 510 GPU to handle graphics, coupled with 3 GB of RAM. The phablet features 32 GB of internal storage. If this isn’t enough, it does offer additional storage options thanks to a microSD card slot. Its camera combo consists of a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with an aperture of f/1.9, LED flash and OIS (optical image stabilisation), and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an aperture of f/1.9 for snapping selfies and video chat. The Galaxy A9 features a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button, which we presume will allow users to enjoy more from Samsung Pay, the Korean tech giant’s new mobile payment service. Since the device was unveiled first in China, it features a dual SIM card slot. Connectivity-wise, the device supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, ANT+, and NFC. To keep the lights on, the A9 features a 4,000 mAh battery that supports quick charging. Unfortunately, the device runs Android 5.1 (Lollipop) out of the box, but we’re guessing it will be updated to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) soon after its launch.
Design-wise, the Samsung Galaxy A9 is clad in both metal and glass just like other members of Samsung’s new Galaxy A series (Galaxy A3 (2016), Galaxy A5 (2016), and Galaxy A7 (2016). colour options include White, Gold, and Pink.
Pricing is yet to be determined. Furthermore, Samsung is yet to announce if the Samsung Galaxy A9 will be available in the UK.
