Earlier in December, Samsung China lifted the lid on the Samsung Galaxy A9 – the biggest member of the South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A series. Although the device is expected to hit stores in China soon, Samsung is yet to reveal how much the device will set Chinese buyers back. If a new leak is to be believed, we now know how much the device will cost.
According to a screenshot leaked by Chinese-speaking micro-blogging site Weibo, the Samsung Galaxy A9 will set Chinese buyers back 3,199 CNY. This is around £332. If the massive new addition to the Galaxy A series does make it over on our shores, we’re guessing it will cost more than £332.
To recap, the Samsung Galaxy A9 features a massie 6-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, making the device one the largest smartphone made by Samsung to date. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC (formerly known as the Snapdragon 620), which is a 1.8 GHz octa-core processor, coupled with 5 GB of RAM. On board is 16 GB of internal storage. If this isn’t enough, users can always make use of a microSD card. In the photography department, the Galaxy A9 features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with an aperture of f/1.9, LED flash and OIS (optical image stabilisation), and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an aperture of f/1.9 for snapping selfies and video chat. The device also features a fingerprint scanner, which we’re assuming supports Samsung’s mobile payment service – Samsung Pay. Keeping the lights on is a massive 4,000 mAh battery. Connectivity-wise, the device supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, ANT+, and NFC. The Galaxy A9 runs Android 5.1 (Lollipop) out of the box. We’re guessing it will be updated to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) soon after its launch. Like other smartphones belonging to the Galaxy A series, the Galaxy A9 features a metal frame. It is also a slim device at a mere 7.4 mm.
Unfortunately, it is yet to be determined if Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy A9 in the UK or anywhere else in the world.
