According to a past report, the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S7 (concept shown below) will feature the newly unveiled Exynos 8890 SoC, while the version headed to markets such as the US and China will feature the also newly unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. Now a new leaked model number list re-confirms that the international version of the Korean tech giant’s next flagship will feature Samsung’s home-grown chipset. The international version will be the version available in the UK.
Leaked model number list
The leaked comes to us courtesy of SamMobile, a site renowned for leaking accurate information on anything Samsung-related. According to the leaked list, the unlocked international versions of the Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) and the unlocked international version of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935F) will feature the Exynos 8890 SoC manufactured under Samsung’s 14 nm process. Other versions that will feature the said CPU are the SM-G930T and the SM-G935T (US carrier T-Mobile), the SM-G930A and the SM-G935A (US carrier AT&T), the SM-G930W8 and the SM-G935W8 (Canada), and the SM-G930 S/K/L and the SM-G935 S/K/L (South Korea).
As for the versions of the S7 with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC (also made under Samsung’s 14 nm process), these include the SM-G9300 and the SM-G9350 (China), the SM-G930V and the SM-G935V (US carrier Verizon), the SM-G930P and the SM-G935P (US carrier Sprint), and the SM-G930R4 and the SM-G935R4 (US carrier US Cellular).
SamMobile notes that the leaked list “comes from an unofficial source,” which means you should take this information with a pinch of salt.
So far, we’ve learned that 50% of the S7 will feature Samsung’s Exynos 8890 SoC, while the other 50% will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC. Other rumoured specs include a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera, pressure-sensitive touchscreens, a high-end DAC (digital to analogue converter), and a USB Type-C connector. The S7 and the S7 Edge are expected to be much thinner compared to the current S6 and S6 Edge. According to another rumour, there will be not two but three variants of the S7. One will be the regular flat 5.2-inch version, a 5.2-inch curved version (Galaxy S7 Edge), and a 5.7- or 5.8-inch curved version (Galaxy S7 Edge Plus).
As for the S7’s rumoured unveiling and launch, the next flagship is expected to make its official debut on the 21st of February, a day before MWC 2016 kicks off in Barcelona, Spain. This is around the same time the S6 made its official debut this year. Here’s where it gets interesting. Although Samsung is said to follow its traditional time frame of unveiling flagships, it is said to launch the S7 earlier than expected, possibly shortly after its unveiling in February.
