HTC One Mini 2 not getting Lollipop treatment

Own an HTC One Mini 2, last year’s “mini” version of its flagship? If you’re wondering when your smartphone will get updated to Android 5.0 (Lollipop), we have bad news for you. HTC said on Twitter that the smartphone will not be getting Lollipop treatment.

Responding to an HTC One Mini 2’s inquiry on when her smartphone will be getting the Lollipop update, HTC said, “We determined that Lollipop on the One mini 2 will not provide an optimal experience; it isn’t scheduled to receive the update.”

HTC One Mini 2 didn’t take the bad news well. HTC explains, “We want the best possible experience for our customers. Unfortunately, bringing Lollipop to that device is not currently possible.”

Although HTC did not mention why it had no plans of rolling out the Lollipop update to the HTC One Mini 2, it seems the smartphone’s hardware is inadequate for Lollipop. It sports a 4.5-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU, and 1 GB of RAM.

Although HTC has confirmed that the One Mini 2 will not be treated to Lollipop, the Taiwanese phone maker has a tendency to change its mind when it comes to updates. So it would be a good idea to see if it does.
