Deciding whether the HTC One (M8) is for you or not? If you’re still undecided, you must have come across a lot of talk on the internet about the black empty space with the HTC logo on the smartphone’s screen. Since the handset sports on-screen buttons, why is there a need for this empty space? Why didn’t HTC add it as real estate? HTC explains that underneath the space is essential circuitry. Furthermore, if the space is used as screen real estate, it would affect the aspect ratio.
Jeff Gordon, HTC’s Senior Global Online Communications Manager, took to his Twitter account to explain, “That black area with the HTC logo on M8? Underneath is a huge amount of circuitry, antennae, etc. It’s not “empty” by any means.”
So there you go. That black space with the HTC logo on the HTC One (M8) isn’t actually empty and adding it to the screen’s real estate will mess up the aspect ratio. Plus, we should note that most people who have gotten their hands on the Taiwanese phone maker’s new flagship don’t seem to mind.
