Last year, Apple gave its fans what they were asking for by launching the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus phablet. Although the smartphones have been flying off shelves like nothing we’ve ever seen, there is still a number of Apple enthusiasts that prefer the smaller 4-inch iPhones, around the same size of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S. We’ve heard rumours claiming that the Cupertino firm is planning to release a smaller iPhone “Mini” this year, and now a new report is re-confirming the rumour.
The news comes to us courtesy of Chinese-speaking MyDrivers. It claims to have gotten hold of a report from US investment firm Zacks Equity Research. The investment firm says that Apple is planning to release a “Mini” iPhone this year. Additionally, it says that its price tag will “be a lot cheaper.”
Before you start to get excited, there are a few things that don’t sit well with us. It’s highly possible that Apple is cooking up an iPhone Mini (it’s possible that Apple will call it the iPhone 6S Mini, while the 4.7-inch version will be called the iPhone 6S and the 5.5-inch version will be called the iPhone 6S Plus), but we’re having a bit of a problem believing that it will “be a lot cheaper,” since cheaper means cutting costs on hardware. Yes, there are Apple fans who prefer smaller screens, but we highly doubt that they would want to get their hands on something less powerful. This said, we think that it will sport a smaller screen, but with the same hardware under the hood. In other words – not cheap!
Of course, since this is anything but official, take it with a pinch of salt.
