BlackBerry has shown us official renders of the upcoming BlackBerry Priv slider. John Chen, BlackBerry CEO, also went hands-on on the device in a recent interview. The Canadian smartphone maker, however, is yet to reveal more details about the device. Thanks to new leaked live photos of the device (see below), we’ve learned more about the device.
4K video recording and 64-bit CPU
The photos seen above were leaked by BlackBerry-centric site N4BB. One of the photos reveal that the BlackBerry Priv will sport an 18-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilisation. Another photo reveals that the smartphone’s camera can record 4K videos at 30 fps.
Another photo reveals that the BlackBerry Priv’s processor will support 64-bit architecture. Although the photo did not reveal what processor the device will come with under the hood, we’ve learned from past reports that it will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 SoC, which is a 64-bit hexa-core (six cores) CPU with an Adreno 418 GPU to handle graphics.
Other rumoured specs include a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD). From what we’ve seen, it will feature a curved screen like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Under the screen is a physical QWERTY keyboard, which slides in and out from the chassis like what with we’ve seen from classic BlackBerry handsets. It is expected to rock 3 GB of RAM. A 5-megapixel front-facing camera is expected to be on board, which will be ideal for snapping selfies and video chat. It is expected to run Android 5.1 (Lollipop) with BlackBerry 10 slapped on top, working as a custom UI.
Blackberry adds that the Priv will be the most secure smartphone in the market, hence the name, and we can’t wait to test if this claim lives up to all the hype.
According to BlackBerry, the Priv will be available in stores towards the end of the year. Although it did not say when exactly, serial leakster Evan Blass previously claimed that it will be launched in the US in November. It is yet to be determined if the device will launch in the UK at around the same time as its US launch or shortly after.
