Wi-Fi Alliance approves Lollipop firmware for Sony XPERIA Z3 – update could be coming soon

Samsung, LG, and HTC have already (or at least started to) rolled out the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update for their 2014 flagships, with the exception of one – Sony. The Japanese phone maker is yet to roll out the latest version of Android to the XPERIA Z3, but it seems the rollout of the update will happen soon.

The image you see above shows that the Wi-Fi Alliance has just approved the Lollipop firmware (spotted by Japanese-speaking Juggly.cn)for the Sony XPERIA Z3 (model number D6603). This is an indication that the update will be rolled out soon, probably towards the end of this month.

As for the Sony XPERIA Z4, the Z3’s successor, the common consensus is that we won’t see the smartphone at MWC 2015, which kicks off on the 1st of March. This suggests that Sony may have reverted back to unveiling one flagship every year, instead of a 6-month cycle.

Phones LTD will let you know once the Lollipop update is available for the Sony XPERIA Z3.
