Wondering what Sony will call its new flagships? Wondering what Sony device will be the right one for you? Chinese-speaking AnTuTu, on its official Weibo page, claims to know more details about the upcoming Sony XPERIA Z6 series, specifically screen sizes and names.
Sony XPERIA Z6 screen sizes and names
According to AnTuTu’s post on Weibo, Sony’s upcoming XPERIA Z6 series will consist of five new smartphones. The first is the Sony XPERIA Z6, which will feature a 5.2-inch screen. The second is the Sony XPERIA Z6 Mini, which will sport a 4-inch screen. The third is the Sony XPERIA Z6 Compact, which will feature a 4.6-inch screen. The fourth is the Sony XPERIA Z6 Plus, which sports a 5.8-inch screen. The fifth is the Sony XPERIA Z6 Ultra, which is the biggest among the five with its 6.4-inch screen.
Aside from the new Sony XPERIA Z6 series’ screen sizes and names, AnTuTu also revealed that four out of five devices will come packed with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC under the hood. Understandably, the device that will not feature Qualcomm’s flagship CPU is the Sony XPERIA Z6 Mini. It will instead feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 SoC. The Snapdragon 820 SoC is a quad-core processor with custom Kryo cores and an Adreno 530 GPU to handle graphics, which Qualcomm claims is a CPU that “has 2x performance and efficiency when compared to the CPU of Snapdragon 810.” The Snapdragon 620 SoC is an octa-core processor with an Adreno 510 GPU.
So when do we expect to see Sony lift the lid on its upcoming XPERIA Z6 series? Sony has sent invitations for a press event at CES 2016, which kicks off on the 5th of January at the Las Vegas Convention Center. However, we’re not expecting Sony’s new flagships to make their official debut at the event, since the Z5 series is relatively new in the market. This said, we’re guessing the new XPERIA Z6 series will be officially unveiled in September of 2016, which is the same month Sony lifted the lid on the XPERIA Z5 series.
Of course, since this is anything but official, take this with a pinch of salt.
