Sony has been busy lifting the lids on its new top of the line smartphones at IFA 2015 in Berlin, Germany. It first lifted the lid on its new flagship, the Sony XPERIA Z5. Soon after, it officially unveiled its new phablet, the Sony XPERIA Z5 Premium, the first smartphone with a Ultra HD (4K) screen. It didn’t stop there. Sony also announced the Sony XPERIA Z5 Compact.
Sony XPERIA Z5 Compact makes its official debut
The Sony XPERIA Z5 Compact is a mini version of the Sony XPERIA Z5 flagship. However, unlike other mini versions of other flagships, the Z5 Compact does not fall short on performance. It basically comes with the same hardware as the bigger XPERIA Z5, apart from the bigger screen.
The Sony XPERIA Z5 Compact comes with a 4.6-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels (HD). Its camera combo consists of a 23-megapixel Sony RS rear-facing camera, which Sony boasts can autofocus in just 0.03 seconds, and a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie-centric camera. The device comes with 32 GB of internal storage. If you are in need of more storage space, it does come with a microSD card slot. To keep the lights on, the smartphones sports a 2,700 mAh battery. Like all XPERIA Z5 series smartphones, the Z5 Compact comes with a fingerprint scanner embedded into the lock key on the side of the device. The Sony XPERIA Z5 Compact is 8.9 mm thick. It runs Android 5.1 (Lollipop) out of the box. Colour options include Graphite Black, White, Yellow, and Coral.
Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 2 GHz, four cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, and an Adreno 430 GPU, coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The problem with this CPU is that is has caused overheating issues with the XPERIA Z3 Plus, which caused the smartphone to crash. We’re hoping Sony has addressed this overheating problem with the XPERIA Z5. If not, there’s just no point getting your hands on the device.
Now that Sony has lifted the lid on the Sony XPERIA Z5 Compact, you may wondering when the Japanese firm is planning to launch the device. Unfortunately, it is yet to be determined how much the device will set you back, or when it plans to launch it.
