Samsung expects to sell 70 million units of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge not 50 million

Industry experts have predicted that Samsung will sell 50 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge combined by the end of 2015. According to a new report, Samsung expects to sell more.

The news comes to us courtesy of The Korea Times. The publication quotes a Samsung executive saying, “The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are drawing positive responses. I have no doubt that they will be the biggest-sellers in the Galaxy series ever”

When asked how many units of the S6 and S6 Edge Samsung expects to sell, he said, “We expect 70 million plus.”

This projection is “echoed” by Samsung vice chairman, Kwon Oh-hyun. He said, “The S6 should do well. The first week looks impressive.”

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge have been available globally since the 10th of April. Pre-orders for the two reached 20 million, with retailers saying that the two were sold out within hours after going live.

To recap, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge sport a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD) and a pixel density of 577 ppi, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) made by Sony, a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie-centric camera, 32/64/128 GB of internal storage, Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and four cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, 3 GB of DDR4 RAM, LTE Cat.6 (300/50Mbps) connectivity, support for wireless charging, and a 2,550 mAh battery for the the S6 and a 2,600 mAh battery for the S6 Edge. The S6 measures 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm and weighs in at 138 g, while the S6 Edge measures 142.1 x 70.1 x 7.0 mm and weighs in at 132 g. They run Android 5.0 (Lollipop) out of the box with a 64-bit TouchWiz UI slapped on top.

Aside from sporting premium hardware, the two are also clad in premium materials. Unlike their predecessor, the S6 and S6 Edge are clad in glass and aluminium.
