Samsung Galaxy S6 global shipments reach 10 million

According to a report, global shipments of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge have hit a combined 10 million units.

The news comes to us courtesy of Yonhap News, with a “high-ranking Samsung official” telling the site, “The sales of the Galaxy S6 series have already surpassed 10 million.”

Find this impressive? Well we don’t. The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge have been available since the 10th of April. This means that the two new smartphones have been around for over a month. To put things in perspective, global shipments of the Galaxy S4 hit 10 million in 27 days, while it took the Galaxy S5 25 days to reach the 10 million mark. This said, it took the S6 and the S6 Edge longer to reach the milestone.

On the flip side, the Samsung official did not mention when the S6 and the S6 Edge hit the 10 million milestone. This means that the two could have reached the milestone earlier.

To recap, the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge rock a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD) and a pixel density of 577 ppi, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) (some units ship with cameras made by Samsung, while some units ship with cameras made by Sony), a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie-centric camera, 32/64/128 GB of internal storage, Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and four cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, 3 GB of DDR4 RAM, LTE Cat.6 (300/50Mbps) connectivity, support for wireless charging, and a 2,550 mAh battery for the the S6 and a 2,600 mAh battery for the S6 Edge. The S6 measures 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm and weighs in at 138 g, while the S6 Edge measures 142.1 x 70.1 x 7.0 mm and weighs in at 132 g. They run Android 5.0 (Lollipop) out of the box with a 64-bit TouchWiz UI slapped on top. They are clad in both glass and metal, which make them more appealing to the consumer.
