Previous reports revealed that Samsung was planning to lift the lid on massive 18.4-inch tablet called the Galaxy View. Now the device has just made its official debut.
Say hello to the massive Samsung Galaxy View
According to Samsung, the 18.4-inch Galaxy View is the largest Android-powered tablet in the market today. However, we’ve learned from past reports that other manufactures are cooking up larger tablets than the View.
The Samsung Galaxy View rocks an 18.4-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). Under the hood is an Exynos 7580 SoC made by Samsung, which is an octa-core processor with cores clocked up to 1.6 GHz, coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The tablet’s storage options include 16 GB and 32 GB versions. If this isn’t enough, users can make use of microSD cards. In the photography department, the device sports a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera for snapping selfies and video chat. There is no rear-facing camera, which makes a lot of sense, since it would feel awkward snapping photos or recording videos using a massive tablet. Keeping the lights on is a massive 5,700 mAh battery that offers 8 hours of video playback. Connectivity-wise, the tablet supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1. In the audio department, the device features stereo speakers. Since it will be tiresome holding the tablet while watching videos, it does come with a two-way stand. The Samsung Galaxy View is rather thick at 11.9 mm. It is also quite heavy, weighing in at 2.65 kg. It runs Android 5.1 (Lollipop) out of the box.
So why did Samsung come up with the Galaxy View? According to the South Korean tech giant the tablet was designed for users who love watching videos.
Samsung CEO JK Shin said, “At Samsung, we are committed to creating new possibilities and bringing our consumers the best mobile experience. We are very excited to introduce the new Galaxy View, providing an entirely new way of consuming mobile video and entertainment.”
Sadly, Samsung is yet to reveal when the Galaxy View will be available in stores or how much the device will set buyers back. We do know, however, that some online retailers have put up the tablet for pre-order and are asking $599 (around £390) for the 32 GB Wi-Fi-only version of the device.
