Units of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in Malaysia are getting Android 5.0 (Lollipop) treatment, according to a report from SoyaCincau. The OTA (over the air) update is yet to be available in the country, but it is available via Samsung’s Kies 3 software, which involves plugging their smartphones into their PCs. The update will eat up 3 GB. This means that when the update is available in the UK, make sure that the internal storage has 3 GB of storage space free.
According to the Korean tech giant, apps that are launched for the first time after the Lollipop update may be sluggish, “due to the initial optimization process required with the Android 5.0 OS.” Furthermore, some installed apps may require an update from Google Play or the Samsung Galaxy App Store to optimise these apps for Lollipop. Lastly, the Galaxy S5’s system memory will decline by at least 950 MB after the update.
If you want to update Kies on your PC to Kies 3, you can download the latest version of the software here.
