An “anonymous tipster” has sent GSMArena photos of what is believed to be the yet to be announced Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. The smartphone bears US network operator AT&T’s logo, indicating that it will be launched by the carrier soon.
The photos reveal that the camera and heart rate monitor on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active are positioned just like that on the regular Galaxy S6. However, the speakers have been moved to the back.
The rugged buttons seen on the photos suggest that the S6 Active will not sport a fingerprint scanner, which isn’t a surprise since the S5 Active didn’t come with the feature either.
The source reveals that the Samsung Galaxy S6 for AT&T will bear the model number SM-G890A. He (or she) also reveals that the device will sport a 3,500 mAh battery, which is bigger than the regular S6 Edge’s 2,600 mAh battery.
Other specs are likely to include a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD) and a pixel density of 577 ppi, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) (some units ship with cameras made by Samsung, while some units ship with cameras made by Sony), a 5-megapixel front-facing selfie-centric camera, 32/64/128 GB of internal storage, Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and four cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, 3 GB of DDR4 RAM, LTE Cat.6 (300/50Mbps) connectivity, and support for wireless charging. Although dimensions were not mentioned, the S6 Active is likely to be bulkier than the S6 and S6 Edge. It is sure to run Android 5.0 (Lollipop) out of the box with a 64-bit TouchWiz UI slapped on top.
It is yet to be determined if the S6 Active will be available in the UK.
