Samsung Galaxy S7 to be available in 5.2- and 5.8-inch versions?

Now that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are out, it’s now time to focus more on what’s next – the Samsung Galaxy S7. We’ve come across a few reports about the Korean tech giant’s next flagship, with a new report claiming the device will be available in two screen sizes.

5.2-inch and 5.8-inch

This new rumour comes to us courtesy of Korean-speaking AsiaToday. According to the report, there will be two versions of the smartphone. One will come with a 5.2-inch screen, while the other will be larger with a 5.8-inch screen. Of course, since this is anything but official, take this with a grain of salt.

The question is, can the site’s source be trusted when he (or she) claims that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be available in 5.2-inch and 5.8-inch variants? Unfortunately, there’s no way for us to confirm at this point if this information is accurate, but we can tell you that it is definitely possible. Currently, Samsung offers the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The are almost identical when it comes to their design and specs. The only differences between the two are the RAM and screen size, with the Galaxy S6 Edge with its 5.1-inch screen and 3 GB of RAM and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus with its 5.7-inch screen and 4 GB of RAM.

Apart from the S7’s two screen sizes, the report also mentions that screens’ resolution. According to the report, the Galaxy S7 will sport a screen with 4K resolution. However, it doesn’t mention if this will be for the 5.2-inch version, the 5.8-inch version, or both.

To give you an idea on what a 4K screen has to offer, the Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a 5.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD). This works out to a pixel density of 577 ppi, which is already one of the best screens available on a smartphone these days. Sony recently lifted the lid on the Sony XPERIA Z5 Premium, which is a phablet with a 5.5-inch screen, offering a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels (Ultra HD or 4K). This works out to a pixel density of a whopping 808 ppi.

Additionally, the report claims that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will come with 4 GB of RAM. Samsung recently announced that its future handsets will offer 6 GB of RAM. Since the report claims that the S7 will only feature 4 GB of RAM just like the Galaxy Note 5, we’re guessing Samsung’s new 6 GB chip will be reserved for the Samsung Galaxy Note 6.

Previous reports said that Samsung has developed a new design and manufacturing process that will speed up the amount of time it takes to roll out flagships. Going back to this new report, the source claims that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be released towards the end of this year. Again, since this is anything but official, take this information with a pinch of salt.
