Motorola previously announced that the Motorola Moto X 1st Gen (runs Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) out of the box and has now been updated to Android 4.4 (KitKat)) will skip Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and be updated to Android 5.1 (Lollipop). That update is yet to happen, but a Motorola exec is now saying that they are working on the update, and it will roll out in a “few weeks.”
This is according to Motorola’s David Schuster who said on Google+:
I know that a lot of people have been asking about the status of the Moto X (1st Gen) Lollipop upgrade. I can see the frustration and in some cases the anger about how long it has taken to get the upgrade deployed. It has been a struggle due to the lack of support from some of our partners but I am glad to announce that we are starting TestDrive in both the US and LatAm. If all goes well we should start full deployments in a few weeks.
Unfortunately, it is yet to be determined when exactly the Android 5.1 update will roll out to the Moto X 1st Gen, or if the update will be for unlocked versions of the handset, locked versions, or both.
