In the past few weeks, we’ve been hearing a lot about the HTC One X9. Now, HTC (in Chinese) has just lifted the lid on its new mid-range smartphone.
Say hello to the HTC One X9
Design-wise, the HTC One X9 looks a lot like the HTC One A9, but with a few differences. It too is clad in aluminium, measuring 153.9 x 75.9 x 7.99 mm (screen-to-body ratio of 71.38%). Under the screen are three capacitive buttons, which is a bit strange since the company’s more recent releases feature on-screen buttons. The speakers appear to be carved in the upper and lower bezels, which is another design element that makes the device unique compared other HTC-made smartphones. Going to the back of the device, the HTC One X9 is similar to the HTC One A9 apart from the plastic band at the top.
As for specs, the HTC One X9 features a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, which is an octa-core processor with each core clocked at 2.2 GHz, coupled with 3 GB of RAM. On board is 32 GB of internal storage. If this isn’t enough, it does come with a microSD card slot. In the photography department, the HTC One X9 features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilisation, shoots RAW photos, and records 4K videos and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture for snapping selfies and video chat. Keeping the lights on is a 3,000 mAh battery. According to HTC, the One X9 is compatible with 5V / 1.5A fast-charging, which isn’t as fast as the modern 5V / 2A format used other devices such as the Nexus 6P, but it’s still around 30% faster compared to the usual 2V / 1A format.
As for the HTC One X9’s price tag, the device will set Chinese buyers back the equivalent of £250, which makes it cheaper that the HTC One A9 that costs around £292 in China. The SIM free HTC One A9 costs £419 in the UK. It is yet to be determined if the HTC One X9 will be available in the UK.
