We have learned from previous reports that HTC was planning to launch its first smartwatch this year. However, a new report from Forbes is saying that it will be a “fitness band” and not a smartwatch. Additionally, the fitness band will reportedly make its debut at MWC 2015 alongside the HTC One (M9) / Hima.
Earlier reports said that HTC has partnered up with fitness apparel manufacturer Under Armour, which suggested that HTC was working on a fitness-centric smartwatch, but, according to the report, the wearable will not be a smartwatch but a smartband instead. Furthermore, Forbes’ source says that HTC has no plans of releasing a smartwatch in the near future. Sadly, these are the details we have about the wearable at the moment.
Going back to the HTC One (M9), Forbes’ report says that the recent leaks “have been largely accurate.” This means that we should see a new flagship that looks a lot like its predecessor the HTC One (M8). Rumoured specs include a 1080p screen, a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor, and 3 GB of RAM. It will run Android 5.0 (Lollipop) with HTC’s Sense 7.0 UI slapped on top. The report adds that the HTC One (M9) will come with an Under Armour app pre-installed so it can sync with the fitness band.
HTC will be holding a press event at MWC 2015, which kicks off at Barcelona, Spain on the 1st of March. We’ll find out by then if the rumours are true or not. Until then, keep it here at Phones LTD for further updates.
