Past reports have claimed that the unannounced HTC One A9 will be a high-end device, but more recent reports are now claiming that the smartphone is more a mid-ranger than high-end smartphone. If you were hoping the One A9 would be a high-end device, don’t hold your breath, as a benchmark result has confirmed that the device is a mid-ranger.
The screenshots above show the HTC One A9 going through tests on the AnTuTu benchmark database. The test reveals that the smartphone sports a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). This works out to a pixel density of 441 ppi. The listing reveals that the One A9 rocks a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 CPU with an Adreno 405 GPU, which is puzzling since it is the Snapdragon 617 is the processor that features the said GPU. In a past leak by master leakster Evan Blass (popularly known as @evleaks on Twitter), it was revealed that the One A9 would feature the Snapdragon 617 CPU.
Other specs revealed by the benchmark include 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The HTC One A9’s camera combo consists of a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera ideal for selfies and video chat.
So how did the HTC One A9 in AnTuTu’s tests? It scored 40,698, which isn’t exactly a score made by high-end of flagship devices, but more a mid-range device.
If you’re looking for a high-end device made by the Taiwanese phone maker, you may want to wait until next year. HTC is expected to launch the rumoured HTC O2, which sports a 6-inch screen and the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood.
So when do we get to see the HTC One A9? According to reports, HTC will be launching a massive marketing campaign in various cities in the US later this month, where the said smartphone will make its official debut. It is said to launch shortly after its unveiling.
Of course, since benchmark tests can be faked, take this information with a pinch of salt. We’re sure to get more information on the HTC One A9 in the coming days or weeks.
