At WWDC 2015, Apple introduced iOS 9. The latest version of iOS comes with a new app for the iPhone and the iPad – the Apple “News” app.
Here’s Apple‘s description of the new News app:
All the news you want. Right where you want it.
iOS 9 adds a new app to your Home screen. News conveniently collects all the stories you want to read, from top news sources, based on topics you’re most interested in — so you no longer need to move from app to app to stay informed. News also combines the rich and immersive design found in print with the interactivity of digital media, letting you enjoy stunningly crafted articles just how the publisher intended.
A captivating experience.
News brings the beautiful editorial layouts and typography of print to the screen. Enjoy interactive and engaging stories, rich with photo galleries, videos, and animation. Content is optimized for both iPhone and iPad, so you’ll have a great reading experience no matter which device you’re using.
Leading news sources.
Explore over a million topics from sources including top news organizations and indie publications. Choose the ones you want to add to your favorites so you can get the news that interests you — like business, technology, fashion, sports, and more.
The stories you really care about.
The more you read, the more personalized the News app becomes, refining the selection of stories delivered to your screen so they are relevant to you. Easily share articles with others and save them to read offline. News stays on top of the stories you’re interested in. So you can, too.
Apple News Format for Publishers.
Articles with substance. And style.
The Apple News Format allows publishers to craft beautiful editorial layouts and custom typography. Galleries, audio, video, and fun interactions like animation make stories spring to life. Articles are automatically optimized for all iOS devices — so content is brought to millions of readers and looks great no matter which device it’s on. And News offers great business terms for publishers as well.
iOS 9 with the new News app will be available as an update to iPhones and iPads in July.
