According to a new report, Apple is planning to launch a 4-inch iPhone this year (rumoured to be the iPhone 6C), as AU Optronics (AUO) has reportedly signed a deal with Apple, supplying the Cupertino firm with 4-inch panels.
The news comes to us courtesy of DigiTimes, who quotes TechNews. According to the report, “supply chain sources” said that AUO has been chosen to supply panels for the next iPhone. AUO will reportedly supply panels for the new iPhones, including the 4.7-inch model (iPhone 6S), the 5.5-inch model (iPhone 6S Plus), and the 4-inch model (iPhone 6C).
AU Optronics (AUO) will reportedly sign an agreement with Apple to will supply the vendor with panels for the iPhone, according to a report from TechNews.
The report quoted supply chain sources resources stating that Apple is looking for additional panel suppliers both for current and upcoming iPhones in order to secure shipments, as other makers’ yields have been fluctuating.
AUO is expected to supply 4-inch panels and is currently prepping 4.7- and 5.5-inch LTPS In-Cell displays at its L3A and 3B fabs, the report added.
The report, however, goes against what other reports from Taiwanese media that claim iPhones with AUO screen will only be available in 2016. This said, we can’t say for sure if we will see the iPhone 6C or not this year or ever.
