According to Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst at KGI Securities known for spilling the beans on unannounced Apple products, all new iPhones and iPad to be released this year will sport Touch ID.
The news comes to us courtesy of AppleInsider. In the analyst’s research not obtained by the site, Kuo says that, like the iPhone 5S, every new iPhone and iPad to be released in 2014 will sport a fingerprint scanner. Touch ID is expected to be a feature of the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 as well as the follow-up to the iPad Air. Furthermore, he says that the Cupertino firm is looking to make Touch ID tougher by using tin in the fingerprint scanner’s production.
Kuo expects 120 million units of iOS-powered devices with Touch ID to be shipped this 2014, and expects this figure to rise to 233 million units in 2015. TSMC is producing the Touch ID module. Sapphire is used to coat the scanner, preventing scratches from ruining its accuracy.
