Case makers have been known to give us a glimpse on what unannounced devices will look like before they are unveiled. This was the case with last year’s LG G4, and it seems this is the same case with the yet to be announced LG G5.
Case-clad LG G5
The renders above were created by LK Ultra and Diztronic. The cases are now available for pre-order on Amazon. This is not the first time we’ve seen renders of the LG G5 clad in protective cases, but this is the first time case renders have revealed the rumoured dual camera setup of the device. If the renders show the real deal, they show that LG has opted to accompany the dual camera setup with dual flash and laser auto focus.
Under the camera is a circular cutout, which is believed to be for a touch fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is said to double as the LG G5’s power button. The renders also mirror what we’ve heard in the past, which is LG moving the volume rocker to the side of the device. With the LG G2, the LG G3, and the LG G4, the location of the volume rocker was on the back of the device, underneath the camera.
Although these new renders line up what we’ve been hearing from past rumours, from what we can see, there’s no way to eject the battery. A past alleged LG G5 diagram revealed that LG has employed a drawer-like mechanism to allow users to eject the battery despite having a metal casing. On the flip side, it’s possible that these case makers are just trying to grab attention for their products, and all we’re looking at is a place maker. This said, you should take these renders with a pinch of salt.
To recap, the LG G5 is rumoured to feature a 5.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD). Under the hood is said to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, which is a new and more powerful quad-core processor with an Adreno 530 GPU to handle graphics. 4 GB of RAM is expected to be on board. In the photography department, the device is said to feature a dual camera setup, consisting of a 16-megapixel and an 8-megapixel sensor. This new rear-facing camera setup is said to allow users to change the field of focus after an image is captured. This camera also comes with 4K video recording support and optical image stabilisation. As for the LG G5’s front-facing camera, the device is said to feature an 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video chat. It is said to feature a reversible Type-C USB port. Lastly, it is expected to be 8.2 mm-thick, which is slightly thinner than the LG G4. Unlike the leather- or plastic-clad LG G4, the LG G5 is said to be clad in metal.
