The photo below shows the camera modules to be used by the LG G4, LG’s next flagship. The camera module to the right is LG Innotek’s “groundbreaking” 16-megapixel camera module with an aperture of f/1.8 with OIS (optical image stabilisation). It is the “widest aperture camera” made by LG Innotek, and has began mass production. The camera module to the left is LG Innotek’s 8-megapixel front-facing camera, which is “its highest resolution for a front camera to date.”
The new 16-megapixel camera “receives 80 percent more light than in the highly praised camera found on the LG G3.” This translates to “better looking images in low light environments and less blur when shooting action and fast moving objects.”
As for the 8-megapixel front’facing camera, aside from being the “highest resolution for a front camera to date,” the camera’s “ultra-thin IR filter keeps infrared light from entering the camera lens, giving images taken with the front camera more natural and accurate colors.” It is also just 0.11 mm thin, which is around “half the thickness of competing IR filters.”
Speaking to Korea IT Times Ung-beom Lee, CEO of LG Innotek, said, “At LG Innotek, we are constantly working to ensure that the cameras we develop allow users to capture and preserve the moments that are most special to them. We are extremely excited to see our technology in LG’s next flagship smartphone because we believe that the power, precision and operability of our camera module will clearly make an impression on consumers.”
Other expected LG G4 specs include a 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD) (pixel density of 534 ppi), 32 GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot (as much as 128 GB), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor with four ARM Cortex-A53 and two ARM Cortex-A57 cores, 4 GB of RAM, and a fingerprint scanner found on the back of the device. It will run Android 5.0 (Lollipop). It is said to measure 148.9×76.5×9.9 mm.
The LG G4 will make its official debut on the 28th of April.
