Last week, Samsung and HTC lifted the lid on their new flagships the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and the HTC One M9 respectively. In the past few days, we’ve learned a lot about the said smartphones, but what about the yet to be announced LG G4? Unfortunately, not much is known about LG’s upcoming flagship at the point. According to a source, it will sport a fingerprint scanner.
The news comes to us courtesy of KoreaHerald. According to its anonymous “industry source close to the matter,” “LG Electronics has recently decided to deploy a fingerprint sensor on its next flagship smartphone and the scanner will be placed at the back of the device.”
Apparently, LG feels that it is being left behind by the competition, namely Samsung and Apple. The Samsung Galaxy S6, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, the Apple iPhone 6, and the Apple iPhone 6 Plus both sport touch-based fingerprint scanners.
Another site told the site, “LG has been left behind in the race for fintech (portmanteau of finance and technology) as it has continued to postpone the adoption of fingerprint technology.”
The source added, “With more global smartphone-makers incorporating a fingerprint reader, which is a security measure for mobile payments, LG may have had few options left but to deploy the authentication sensor for its next marquee smartphone.”
