Looking forward to the LG G5? If so, we’ve got a treat for you. A newly leaked render allegedly shows the device, re-confirming what we’ve heard from past rumours, plus something new.
LG G5 render?
The renders above were created by Korean-speaking CNet Korea. The renders, the site claims, were based on information sent by an eyewitness who claims to have seen the unannounced device. The renders re-confirm what we’ve learned from past reports, which is the LG G5 will be constructed out of metal.
Apart from showing a device constructed out of metal, they also show changes in design. The LG G5 in the renders does away with the rounded back and slightly curved design of the LG G4. Instead, it seems to be flat, thin, and features smoother edges. The renders also reveal that the volume buttons have been moved from the back to the left side of the frame.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Smartphones with removable batteries feature removable backs that allow users to easily switch batteries when needed. The trade-off, however, is that this design is not ideal for metal constructions. The renders show that the LG G5 will make use of a different approach with removable batteries and metal designs. Instead of a removable back, the battery slides out from the bottom of the device, thanks to a new mechanism. Reportedly, LG’s engineers put a lot of effort into this design, which ensures the LG G5 will feature a metal casing and a removable battery. The drawer-like design is said to be better at preventing water and dust from entering the device’s internals.
Of course, since we can’t verify if the renders show the real deal or not, take these renders with a pinch of salt.
As for the LG G5’s rumoured specs, we’ve learned from past reports that the device will feature a 5.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD). Under the hood is said to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, coupled with 3 GB of RAM. The LG G5 is said to feature a dual rear-facing camera setup. The dual camera setup is said to consist of a 16-megapixel and an 8-megapixel sensor. An 8-megapixel front-facing camera is said to be in charge of snapping selfies and video chat. A USB Type-C port and a microSD card slot is said to be on board. It is also believed to feature Force Touch.
