Official specs

The Nexus 5X sports a 5.2-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor clocked as much as 2 GHz with an Adreno 418 GPU, coupled with 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Its camera combo consists of a 12.3-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1.55 micron pixels, f/2.0 aperture and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture, which is ideal for taking selfies and video chat. Storage options include a 16 GB and 32 GB version. To keep the lights on, the smartphone features a 2,700 mAh battery. It runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box. Other features include front-facing speakers, a fingerprint scanner found on the back of the device, and a USB Type C port.

What the Nexus 5X doesn’t have to offer is a microSD card slot, which means no option for additional storage, wireless charging support, and OIS (optical image stabilisation) on board the camera.

Nexus Imprint fingerprint scanner

Nexus Imprint is the first native fingerprint API that has been included in Android. Unlike most of the fingerprint solutions out there such as Apple’s and Samsung’s, Nexus Imprint no longer requires you to unlock the screen and then unlock the phone itself. Nexus Imprint bypasses the process of unlocking the screen and directly unlocks the device by simply tapping on the fingerprint scanner once.

Why just a single tap? This fingerprint scanner is much faster than what is available on existing devices. It takes 1/600 milliseconds for the reader to scan your fingerprint. Nexus Imprint also works with Android Pay.

Price and release date

The LG-made Nexus 5X (unlocked) is now available for pre-order via Google Play. The 16 GB variant costs £339, while the 32 GB version will set you back £379.

The Nexus 5X is now available for pre-order in the US, UK, Ireland and Japan. It is yet to be determined, however, when the device will be available. According to Google, the device will launch later this month.
