A Google spokesperson previously said, referring to the Nexus 5 (last year’s Nexus smartphone), “Once they’re gone, they’re gone.” This suggested that the device would soon be discontinued. The question is, when? It seems that we have our answer, as a new report is saying that the handset will continue to be sold on the Google Play Store until the first quarter of 2015.
The news comes to us courtesy of TechRadar. In an update, it reports, “Google in the US has reached out to clarify that it’s going to continue to to sell Nexus 5 on the Google Play Store and via select retailers through the first quarter of 2015.”
Currently, the red and white versions of the Nexus 5 are no longer available from the Google Play Store. Only the 16 GB and 32 GB storage options of the black version are being sold. If you want to get your hands on these models, the unit will leave Google’s warehouse in 1-2 business days upon purchase.
If you were planning to get your hands on the Google Nexus 5, we’re happy to tell you that it will still be available in the first three months of next year. So there’s still a lot of time to purchase the device.
