The Nexus 6 phablet was made by Motorola. Now the question is, who will be the smartphone manufacturer behind the next Nexus smartphone? According to a source, the next Nexus smartphone maker could be LG.
This is according to Android Pit‘s source. When asked who will be behind the next Nexus smartphone, the source said that “it’s under consideration at LG.” Previous reports claimed that Huawei was also one of the manufacturers being considered by Google.
Huawei would be a good choice for Google, since it has shown promise in its smartphone lineup. However, LG may be the wisest choice, since the South Korean phone maker was behind the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5. The two are considered two of the most successful Nexus smartphones. As of now, nothing has been set in stone, so we could see someone else put the next Nexus together.
If Google does choose LG once more, we’re guessing the next Nexus smartphone will be based on the LG G4, LG’s current flagship. However, we’re guessing Google would want the device to sport a CPU under the hood that is more powerful than the 64-bit hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808. The next Nexus could sport Snapdragon 815 or maybe the Snapdragon 820. It is less likely to sport the Snapdragon 810, due to its rumoured overheating issues.
Another thing that is yet to be determined is the next Nexus’ name. Since Nexus 7 is already being used by Google’s affordable tablet, we’re guessing the search giant will get creative. What that is, however, is anyone’s guess.
If history repeats itself, we’ll see the next Nexus in October. With 5 months to go, Google and LG (or Huawei) still have a lot of time to think things over.
