We’ve learned that Google is planning to announce its next Nexus devices on the 29th of September, in its annual event held in San Francisco. Previous reports have revealed that the search giant is planning to lift the lid on not one but two Nexus devices this year – the rumoured 5.2-inch Nexus 5 (2015) smartphone made by LG and the 5.7-inch Nexus 6 (2015) phablet made by Huawei. According to a new report, Google’s Nexus devices will be launched on the same day, with the Nexus 5 (2015) expected to be affordable.
LG Nexus 5X?
The new rumour comes to us courtesy of Android Authority. According to the site, the LG Nexus 5 (2015) smartphone will be unveiled as the “LG Nexus 5X.” It adds that the upcoming Nexus smartphone will be affordable, and will be available on Google Play the same day it is officially unveiled.
Sadly, the report had no details to reveal about the Huawei-made Nexus 6 (2015), but we’re likely to get more details about the phablet in the coming days, since the 29th of September is just around the corner. We’re guessing that the device will be affordable as well.
Going back to the Nexus 5X’s pricing, the site’s trusted source says that the device will set buyers back the equivalent of around £260. We’re guessing this will be for the 16 GB version. A more expensive variant is said to cost around £293. We’re guessing this is the 32 GB version of the device. Colour options are said to include black, white, and light blue.
If this new rumour holds water, this will be great news for Nexus fans, as last year’s Nexus 6 (made by Motorola) started at around £424, which was significantly more expensive compared to 2013’s Nexus 5 (also made by LG). Of course, since this is anything but official, take this information with a pinch of salt.
According to past reports, both the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6 (2015) screens will have a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD). Furthermore, the two are said to come with fingerprint scanners found on the back of the devices. The two are expected to run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box. Nexus devices are known to run an unadulterated version of Android, meaning it will not have a custom UI slapped on top of Android.
