Although BlackBerry did not host a media event, the new BlackBerry Priv is now official. The Canadian phone maker has slowly introduced what the device can do, and now we’re learning more about the device via its first TV ad.
First BlackBerry Priv TV ad
The 30-second ad is shot in black and white, and seems to be the first TV ad of the BlackBerry Priv. The main message behind the ad is that your entire life is inside your smartphone. So, if the device gets lost, stolen, or hacked, say goodbye to your privacy. This is why having a smartphone designed with privacy in mind is essential, which is exactly what the Priv has to offer.
Here’s the ad:
To recap, the BlackBerry Priv sports a 5.4-inch dual-edged screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD). The edges can show data such as information from apps and the battery’s status while charging. Users can choose which side (left or right) will show data. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor (two cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, four cores clocked at 1.44 GHz, and an Adreno 418 GPU to handle graphics), coupled with 3 GB of RAM. The device features 32 GB of internal storage. If this is not enough, you can always slap in a microSD card (as much as 2 TB). Its camera combo consists of an 18-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-flash camera, OIS, and is certified by Schneider-Kreuznach and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for snapping selfies and video chat. To keep the lights on, the smartphone comes with a 3,410 mAh battery that offers longer battery life. It runs Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) out of the box.
BlackBerry revealed that the Priv comes with an early warning system called DTEK that warns users when their privacy has been compromised.
The BlackBerry Priv (SIM free) is available from BlackBerry UK for £559.00 (VAT included). It will start shipping out to peolple who pre-ordered the smartphone on the 9th of November.
