In the past, Taiwan-based ASUS announced that it was planning to launch a smartwatch. However, it failed to get into the details. Now, according to “a source familiar with the company’s plans,” ASUS will be launching a smartwatch “later this year,” specifically in September. The smartwatch is said to sport an AMOLED screen and will be priced below the Motorola Moto 360, Samsung Gear Live, and LG G Watch.
The anonymous source spilled the beans on ASUS’ rumoured smartwatch with TechCrunch. Aside from the release date and a few specs, the source also said that the device will be priced between $99 (around £58.09) and $149 (around £87.43).
So why didn’t ASUS lift the lid on their smartwatch at Google I/O just like LG, Samsung, and Motorola? According to the source, the company didn’t want to “rush” their efforts, meaning they wanted to make sure everything looked and ran perfectly.
Of course, since ASUS has neither denied nor has it confirmed the report, take this with a pinch of salt.
